Employees of the City's Sanitation and Recycling Divisions are committed to giving Wheeling residents the best garbage and recycling service possible.

The Sanitation Division is responsible for the collection and disposal of ordinary household trash.  All garbage accumulated or stored for collection shall be deposited in standard containers that are leakproof, watertight and have a capacity no more than thirty gallons.  If the garbage or rubbish is to be boxed or bundled, they are to be no more than four feet in length and two feet in width. Each individual container or box/bundle shall weigh no more than fifty pounds (50 lbs).  If a household has a pick-up exceeding the weight limit, please call the Sanitation Office prior to your regular scheduled pick-up day.

The City's curbside recycling program started in October 1993 and operates on a bi-monthly pick-up schedule for residential households utilizing City approved containers.  For the type of recyclables collected, click on the Additional Information topic below.
